British Flowers Rock!14 June 2018British Flowers Rock! It’s coming up to our favourite time of the year again – British Flowers week! From 18th – 24th June we will be celebrating all things British grown. We will have a shop full of gorgeous British blooms to fill your homes with. Every day during British flowers week we shall blog about a different British grown flower that we love. We will be giving you the history behind it, when they are available from and how best to care for them. We try to source as much British produce as we can throughout the year but most British flower farms are small and are unable to supply flowers all the year through. Summer really is the best time for British grown flowers. The variety is incredible and nothing like what you can pick up at the supermarket. Throughout the year we stock British grown Alstroemeria which is grown in West Sussex and beautiful greenery from Ireland. Once we come into spring we see the start of British Tulips, Anemones, Daffodils and Ranunculus. Once we get into the middle of May the variety is huge! Stocks, Delphinium, Larkspur and Sweet Williams are just a few of the flowers available. If, like us you are becoming very conscious of caring for the environment, buying British Flowers is a much more sustainable option than from further afield. Imported flowers cause ten times the amount of carbon emissions than British grown blooms. If we come together to support our local and British growers the more British flowers can flourish. Until the demand is high enough we will always be limited to what is available and when. The only person who can change this is YOU – start demanding British! Here's a bouquet using all British flowers and foliage.... The wonderful group of British growers that are Flowers from the Farm have just won gold at the Chelsea Flower Show with their gorgeous stand, packed full of British blooms! Flowers from the Farm are a non-profit network of British flower growers and sellers whose 500 members span the length of the UK. Most of its members are small, independent businesses so to win such a prestigious award is such a huge achievement. Keeping up the sustainable and environmentally friendly theme, their stand has been made without using any floral foam. Just incredibly beautiful and such a great advert for British flowers! Well done to all involved!
