Happy New Year

New year, New Houseplants! All the decorations are down and the house is looking bare. We have the answer and we will tell you why! We have some gorgeous plants in stock from Aloe Vera to the old fashioned Cheese plants. Not forgetting our little throwback to the 80's .... the hanging Spider plant. Apart from looking fantastic why are plants good for us though?  When you breath your body takes oxygen but releases carbon dioxide. Adding plants to an interior space can help reduce those carbon dioxide levels and increase oxygen levels. They also increase humidity and reduce levels ...Read More

Floral Expression going green

We're going green but not in the floral sense! This picture from National Geographic has inspired us to make some small changes to reduce our use of plastics in the shop. The effect plastic is having on our planet and wildlife is devastating and we should all be doing something, however small to change the impact we're having on the world.  Although we can't completely stop using cellphane we are dramatically reducing the amount we use. We have now sourced an Eco Wrap which is biodegradable, compostable and completely recyclable. When we do have to use cellophane the ...Read More

British Flowers week day 5 - Rose

It only seems fitting to end British Flowers week with our national flower – the Rose. The nation’s favourite flower and all round beauty. Not only is it beautiful, there’s lots to find out about the Rose, things that even we didn’t know until we did a bit of research! Here we go…. Roses are old….I mean, really old! There are Rose fossils that date back 35 million years. The oldest living Rose is thought to be 1000 years old and covers the wall at the Cathedral of Hildesheim in Germany. In 1945 the Cathedral was bombed and destroyed but the Rose ...Read More

British Flowers Week Day 4 - Delphinium

We always look forward to the first batch of Delphinium to be delivered. One of only a few true blue flowers that never fail to blow us away. They add drama to any arrangement or garden with their tall stems filled with bright blue blooms. They are one of those flowers that look stunning on their own in a vase or mixed in with other flowers. You really can’t go wrong with them.   To give them a long vase life, always cut them at an angle and put them into clean water. Remove any leaves that are below the water line so that the water stays fresh. Replace the water every 2-3 days to ...Read More

Stocks or Matthiola are among many of our favourite flowers. Available in a range of pretty pinks, lilacs, purple, cream and white, with the most heavenly scent that fills a whole room, what’s not to love about them?!   Stocks originate from the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. They came to Britain during the 16th Century and are named after Pietro Andrea Matthioli who first identified them. Stocks are part of the cabbage family and are related to Turnips and Broccoli – amazing how something so pretty can come from a Turnip! If you don’t change their wate ...Read More
